Life Coaching FAQs

Life Coaching
What is coaching?

Coaching is about empowering individuals to unlock their potential and help them reach their goals and aspirations for the future, via a conversation between the coach and the client.

It is about looking ahead and developing achievable specific goals, whether personally and/or professionally.

The therapeutic relationship enables the client to take accountability and accept responsibility.

What is the role of the coach?

During your sessions, there is no judgment and you will be supported by being listened to and open-ended questions will be asked to evoke awareness within, so you are able to reach your goal(s) and hopefully be inspired!

No guidance, suggestions or decision making is done or offered by a coach; it is the responsibility of the client to decide their way forward.

What are the benefits of seeing a life coach?

Most people don’t come to coaching because they need more information. They arrive because they’ve been going around in circles with the same thoughts for weeks, months, or sometimes years and are ready for change.

Talking things through with friends and family can be helpful, but the people closest to us often have their own opinions, assumptions, and ideas about what we should do.

What if I only want a one-off session?

Absolutely. And it can be a powerful place to start. This focused 90-minute coaching chat is ideal if you’re facing a decision, feeling stuck, questioning what’s next, or simply need space to think clearly.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on what you’re looking for. Some people book a single session because they have a specific decision to make, want to untangle something that’s been on their mind, or simply need space to think clearly.

If you’re navigating a transition, feeling stuck, or looking for more clarity, confidence and direction, I usually recommend starting with 4-6 sessions. This gives us time to explore what’s going on, build momentum, and begin putting things into action.

If you’re looking for deeper exploration, longer-term support, or you’re questioning bigger themes such as purpose, identity, career direction or what comes next, then 10 sessions may be a better fit.

Is it similar to counselling?

No, counselling is used to reflect on the past by looking inward and backward to understand the “why” behind your emotions and past experiences.

What happens during sessions?

Sessions are up to 50 minutes (unless a single session) and take place via Teams video.

You will be guided through a 6-point process:

  1. Review the previous session and the actions that you completed.
  2. Set the goal for that session.
  3. Consider where you are at the present moment with your goal.
  4. Consider your options in meeting this goal.
  5. Agree on actions.
  6. Summarise the session before completing the session.
What does the coach need from me during a session?

Be yourself! So your time is well spent with your coach you are expected to come to the session fully prepared, with a goal or aspiration in mind that you would like to work towards.

Coming to the session in a relaxed state is encouraged. Ensure you are in an environment where you will not be disturbed or overheard, so you can share openly and honestly, with a glass of water.

You may also wish to take notes so you may want a pen and paper and any other items that you may think will be useful such as a diary or post it notes.

What happens if I start sessions and it’s not for me?

Honesty is always the best policy! Sometimes coaching may not be the best fit for a client and this can either be identified by the coach and/or the client, usually during the chemistry call.

If this is the case, the coach will help identify the needs of the client and it is up to the client to seek further appropriate interventions.

I want to start coaching now, what are the next steps?

Great! Go to the home page and click on “Book Your Free Chemistry Call” to arrange a suitable date and time.

This may last up to 45 minutes, during which time you will see if I am right for you and vice versa. This is an opportunity for you to ask any questions and expectations are explored by both parties.

Judy looks forward to helping you to live your life with purpose!
